After a long drive home from another poorly attended 'Open Mic' gig where acts had travelled miles to perform in front half a dozen people and a dog, aspiring Tamworth comedian Darren Mortiboy was sure comedy nights for new acts didn't have to be like this. Could he offer a better comedy night. He'd met plenty of great comedians who'd perform, he just needed the right venue. After a chance introduction to Andrew Webb owner of a new intimate club 'The Wherever Bar' the two set to work on hosting a Comedy Night with difference.
What was going to be different about this night? A professional set up with stage, lighting, walk on music plus the chance for break through acts to rub shoulders with a professional comedian who would close the show and voilà 2014 Mortified Comedy was born.
Mortified became a monthly comedy night that quickly gained a reputation around the country. In its first year the night attracted an insane level of comedians such as Pat Monahan, Stephen Carling and Rob Rouse then quickly followed Joe Lycett, Gary Delaney, Alfie Moore, Nathan Caton, Mick Ferry, Zoe Lyons and Tiff Stephenson along with a host of U.K circuit headliners.
Break through acts at the time such as Scott Bennett, Nick Page, Josh Pugh and Lyndsey Santoro all delighted audiences at the club, later to appear on ours screens in Live at the Apollo, Qi, BGT and Mock the Week . Then 2018 came along.....
